The High Commissioner W. Sunil De Silva presented his letters of credence to the President Edgar Lungu of the Republic of Zambia, as High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Zambia (resident in Pretoria), at a ceremony held at the State House in the capital Lusaka on 3 November 2016.
During the ceremony, the High Commissioner sent a warm personal greeting of the President of Sri Lanka to the President of Zambia and reiterated the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
In his speech, the President Edgar Lungu reaffirmed the support of the Government of Zambia to envoys in the exercise of their official duties. In addition, he emphasized the importance of translating the bilateral and multilateral relations between the countries and between them, in a political and economic cooperation more meaningful. Stressing the relationship between Zambia and Sri Lanka, President Lungu reiterated the importance of identifying new ways for South-South cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, tourism, food and textile processing. In addition, the President praised the gigantic progress that Sri Lanka has made in recent years to keep the peace and in the direction of economic progress and development of the country.
Following the ceremony, the envoys who have presented credentials that day were led by president Edgar Lungu in site of the State visit.
